Potionmaking Training

This page provides info on how many potions you need to brew to train the Potionmaking skill through different levels. For general information about the Potionmaking skill, see the main Potionmaking page.

All potions require three ingredients to brew: a root, a secondary, and a vial. Each potion requires one of each ingredient: If you need to brew 40 potions, you will need 40 of each ingredient.

All information was gathered using the Experience Calculator.

Potionmaking Guide edit

Level 1 → 14: Accuracy & Forestry edit

The beginning levels are nice and easy: Carrots can be quickly picked and banked from a farming patch on the very western edge of the map, just across the river north of Gloomhollow. Leaves can be easily acquired from killing Lumberjacks, who always drop a leaf on death.

Level Potion Quantity Ingredients
1   → 8     Potions of Accuracy 40   Aruba Root   Carrot   Vial
8   → 14     Potions of Forestry 54   Fiji Root   Leaf   Vial

Level 14 → 28: Fishing & Mining edit

Starfish can be pickpocketed from Fishermen (25% chance) at Level 3 Crime, which is a slow but reliable source. At time of writing, the Fishermen refuse to reveal their source of Starfish.

If you have the Mining level to mine Palladium Ore, you may want to brew Potions of Mining from level 20, to save you the click-intensity of pickpocketing:

Level Potion Quantity Ingredients
14   → 20     Potions of Fishing 84   Sardinian Root   Starfish   Vial
20   → 28     Potions of Mining 160   Maui Root   Palladium Ore   Vial

Otherwise, if you can't mine Palladium, you can just make more lots more Potions of Fishing:

Level Potion Quantity Ingredients
14   → 28     Potions of Fishing 312   Sardinian Root   Starfish   Vial

Level 28 → 42: Defense & Smithing edit

Defense potions are currently the sole use of Bones in the game. Hope you've been picking them up...

If you have the Mining level to mine Palladium Ore and the Smithing level to smith Palladium Bars, you may want to brew Potions of Smithing from level 36:

Level Potion Quantity Ingredients
28   → 36     Potions of Defense 442   Grenada Root   Bone Meal   Vial
36   → 42     Potions of Smithing 264   Tonga Root   Palladium Bar   Vial

Otherwise, if you can't mine or smith Palladium, you can just make more Potions of Defense (with a lot more bones):

Level Potion Quantity Ingredients
28   → 42     Potions of Defense 1,102   Grenada Root   Bone Meal   Vial

Level 42 → 62: Restoration, Strength, & Mischief edit

There are few uses for these potions, besides Mischief potions to perhaps pickpocket higher tier enemies and unlock better chests for a few minutes.

Grapes and Rat Tails are currently only acquired through enemy drops, making them very tough to farm. Grapes are intended to be harvestable, so they will likely be easier to get in future updates.

Level Potion Quantity Ingredients
42   → 50     Potions of Restoration 1,598   Nauru Root   Strawberry   Vial
50   → 56     Potions of Strength 1,658   Samoan Root   Grapes   Vial
56   → 62     Potions of Mischief 2,463   Vanua Root   Rat Tail   Vial

Level 62 → 100: Magic edit

The best potion to brew all the way to Level 100 requires Elf Ears, a rare drop from Elves.

At a 1 in 50 drop rate, you would need to kill 7.8 million Elves to get enough Elf Ears for Level 100 Potionmaking, assuming average luck. The Elves do not deserve this.

If you killed one Elf every second, it would take you 2,175 hours to complete your slaughter. You do not deserve this.

Be advised that there is no God beyond this point, and you will only endure suffering.

Level Potion Quantity Ingredients
62   → 100     Potions of Magic 156,661   Mariana Root   Elf Ears   Vial

Tips edit

- You can make up to 9 potions in a single trip, with one inventory space left over. Use the right-click option "Take out X items" to quickly remove 9 of each ingredient during bank runs.

- Drinking a potion is one of the few actions that does not interrupt walking, so you can drink your entire set of brews on the way back to the bank to re-use the vials. Get chugging!

- Higher-tier gloves appear to increase Harvesting speed, making collection faster for the secondary ingredients. Wear the highest tier you are able to equip!
