Crime is a valuable skill for accumulating both resources and wealth. Training often involves pickpocketing NPCs or picklocking special chests hidden throughout the world. These pickable chests, usually located inside buildings, require a Crime level that corresponds to the value of the items inside. Higher-value chests demand higher skill levels to unlock.

Equipment edit

Certain equipment will increase your crime skill, making pickpocketing succeed more often.

Pickpocketing edit

Many NPCs can be pickpocketed for Crime experience and various loot, with each attempt taking 5 Ticks (3s) each. On failure, the player is stunned for several ticks and takes damage, which scales with their Hitpoints level—lower Hitpoints result in less damage, while higher levels bring it closer to the maximum listed below. For this reason, players often train Crime before combat to conserve food, as lower Hitpoints reduce the overall damage taken from failed attempts. Players who keep their Hitpoints level at 13 or lower will take 1 damage per failed attempt. At Hitpoints level 14, players will take 2 damage per failed attempt given that the npc is able to do so. Players take 3 damage each failure starting at Hitpoints level 20.

Tips edit

You can enhance your Crime training by casting Aurum Majora or Minor while pickpocketing. Although this costs 1 tick of pickpocketing time, it allows you to cast two Aurum spells, earning additional Magic experience and converting unwanted items into Coins. You can cast Aurum spells while stunned, which, in addition to eating food, are some of the only actions you can take in that state.

It is recommended to use an alternate account to lure a target by either talking to or attacking them, where possible. Simply using the "Talk-To" option and keeping the message box open will freeze the NPC. If attacking them, in certain locations, the alternate account can be placed in a safe spot while maintaining combat with the NPC. You can draw aggression without actually attacking them (such as over a fence or wall).

With high enough defence, you can also attack an NPC yourself to prevent wandering. Turning off auto-retaliate will keep the NPC attacking you while they are pickpocketed. This appears to have no effect on pickpocketing success rates.

Both methods ultimately stop the NPC from moving, which maximises xp rates by eliminating wasted ticks while following them between pickpockets, and simplifies clicking.

Common locations to use aggression to lure NPCs are in the Ictirine City Jail containing various targets, or the Middlefern hut containing a Level 16 Wizard.
