Skills are statistics that can be trained to unlock new abilities and improve combat, gathering and crafting efficiency.

By repetitively carrying out relevant actions that reward experience, skills can be increased in level. Each level grants a higher chance of successfully completing an action in that skill, with some levels acting as milestones that unlock new abilities.
