== Development Background ==

According to early Reddit posts<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/rsc/comments/d8pyuv/are_any_old_rsc_players_interested_in_a_new/</ref>, [[Dew]] began development of ''[[HighSpell]]'' around 2018–2019 as a personal project inspired by the now-defunct ''[https://classic.runescape.wiki RuneScape Classic]'' (RSC). A long-time RSC player himself, Dew noticed there were few, if any, serious attempts to recapture the unique feel of classic browser-based MMOs. This led him to begin working on his own game, using 3D environments with 2D sprites and point-and-click gameplay.

<blockquote>''"I had always thought the RuneScape formula worked really well... and always found it strange that hardly anyone has tried to replicate it."''</blockquote>

Dew initially worked on ''HighSpell'' while balancing a full-time job, often putting in an additional 20–30 hours per week on development. He continued development even through a major life change—moving from China back to the U.S.—and took a short break before preparing the first live test server.

<blockquote>''"I just need to set up a small test server and then I will put everything up on a live, public server. I'll try to have the launch date be Feb 1, because 2/1/21 looks like a cool date lol."''</blockquote>

As of today, ''HighSpell'' remains an active and growing MMO with regular content updates and a small but dedicated player base. Dew continues to handle all development and server maintenance himself.

It is unknown what Dew's current job status is, though it is assumed that he still works a full-time job alongside development.
